East Kilbride Rolls-Royce have been playing amateur football in the New Town since 1954.
We were formed in 1954, with the team playing in the Scottish Amateur League, and a team also playing in the Glasgow Welfare League.
The club was actually an amalgamation of two teams, PSG (who were a printing subsidiary of Rolls-Royce), and EK Rolls-Royce. And it was not until 1975 when they amalgamated, did they become a stand alone club. With the 1st XI being managed by John Bones and Gordon Scullion, and the 2nd XI by Frank Stellard (who still keeps a healthy involvement to this day).
We have two teams, with the 1st XI playing in the Scottish Amateur Premier League Division Two, managed by Toni Campbell, assisted by Paul Millar. The 2nd XI play in The Greater Glasgow Premier League Division 3, and are managed by Stevie Heron, assisted by Gary Hay and Ronnie Wilson.
This Season EKRR are starting what we are calling a "Community Club". The long term plan is to have teams from five years old right through to an under 19 team, all coming under the EK Rolls-Royce AFC banner.
To start with we will be running an Under 14s and Under 15/16s. In addition, we are anticipating a large influx of local talent between the ages of 19 and 21. So, if anyone is interested in joining the Rolls-Royce Revolution, e-mail The Boss at the address below.
Next season the "Community Club" will be expanding and we will be taking on an under 13/14 team, and plans are also at an advanced stage to start an under 7/8 team as well. Anyone interested in being involved email "The Boss" at the usual address.
Many thanks to all at Mossblown AFC for their great hospitality and the recent Speakers Breakfast. A great time was had by all the EKRR contingent and the bacon went down a treat with the lager.
The Annual Player of The Year Presentation Night will be held on Saturday May 10 at the Rolls-Royce Social club with Cliff Smith entertaining for the evening in his own inimitable style.
If anyone has any comments about the website or the club, please send your emails to "The Boss", and he will definintely reply (eventually).
